悲しい事件
アメリカでは、この2年間で私の知る限り二人の合気道のインストラクターが逮捕されています。どちらも自分の合気道クラスの生徒だった10代の子供と性的関係を持った罪に問われています。合気道の指導者が性犯罪を犯したわけです。一人は50代の高段位のインストラクター。もう一人は20代のシカゴの大手の合気道団体の主催者の先生のようです。50代のインストラクターは６段位なのだそうで、多くの合気道家に尊敬される人なんだとか。もう一人の人はまだ20代ですが、お父さんが立ち上げたアメリカでもメジャーな合気道団体を引き継いで活動していたようです。
Aikido instructor sentenced
A Helena man on Thursday was sentenced to 20 years, with 15 suspended, for felony sexual assault for inappropriately touching a 13-year-old former student at the Aikido studio he owned here.
As a condition of his sentence, Clinten Jay George won't be allowed to return to Helena without permission from his probation officer.
George, who was 49 at the time of the incident, was designated a "tier one" sex offender, meaning that he is considered unlikely to reoffend, after a sentencing investigation.
George was originally arrested in the case on March 8 and posted a $50,000 bond two days later.

Sex charge for martial arts instructor

A 26-year-old martial arts instructor was ordered held in lieu of $150,000bail Tuesday by a Cook County judge after he was charged with sexually abusinga 16-year-old student.
Prosecutors allege that Stephen Toyoda of Glenview sexually abused a girlwho was taking his summer martial arts classes. The two were discovered by awitness who saw them engaged in a sex act, Assistant State’s Atty. Jon Neuleibsaid.
Toyoda was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Three sexual encounters occurred between the two from late June to earlyAugust at a Northwest Side martial arts academy, prosecutors said.
Toyoda was arrested Sunday, and if convicted could face up to 7 years inprison.

Aiki-webでも取り上げられていてますが*1、子供クラスで合気道を教えることがどの道場でも盛んになって来ているのに、合気道指導者がこういう事件で逮捕されるとまじめに取り組んでいる人にとっては痛手となります。逆に親にとっては、自分の子供に武道を習わせているのに、指導者に変な事をされる危険性があるのでは敬遠してしまいます。
Tkの通う道場の道場長も、子供クラスを教えるとき、子供との距離は周囲に疑念をもたれないように心がけているし、稽古中親御さんが見学してくれるに越したことは無いと話していました。子供クラスの合宿では、補助で女性の大人に手伝ってもらい、男女両方が安心して稽古できるような環境を作っているのだそうです。日本以上に子供に対しての保護がしっかりしている国ですから、子供クラスでの指導者の関わり方も慎重にしなくてはなりません。
日本では合気道関係で先生と生徒との関係での裁判沙汰はあまり聞きませんが、もしもこんなことがあったら大変でしょうね。
